Grill-n-Chill 2011

Deimos Air Cooled were proud to trade at Grill-n-Chill, held at Exted Autorama, near Canterbury on 17 / 18 September 2011, as well as sponsoring the show in its first year. Despite a showery Saturday, lots of keen campers arrived in air and water-cooled VWs, as well as some other very cool customs; some had travelled from France and Germany! A real family-friendly show, Grill-n-Chill had something for everyone; a range of traders to visit and stands to look around, including the Outlaw Flat Four stand, sticker stall, autojumble and a choice of food and drink including Crazy Udder, and for the brave, a van selling fiery chilli dogs. Grill-n-Chill branded cupcakes went down a storm on both the Saturday and the Sunday.

For the energetic, there were Zorb balls and bungees plus a Camper-shaped bouncy castle and a storyteller in the main tent for the kids. Visitors could also explore the venue and might have spotted some VWs in various states of repair, some of them cunningly camouflaged by greenery!
After the rain, Saturday evening was mainly dry, and the main tent drew a good crowd with a mix of music and room to boogie; and of course, no VW show would be complete without glowsticks! Others made the most of the dry weather and chilled out in the camping pitches.

A sunny Sunday saw lots of day visitors arrive, and a healthy turnout with some beautiful cars on display in the show and shine as well as in the camping and parking fields.
Wayne Callaway’s 1967 split screen camper took ‘Best in Show’, winning a handmade glass trophy.
As sponsors, Deimos Air Cooled had our own ‘Sponsor’s Choice’ trophy to award, which went to Paul Majorski and his 1973 Dormobile.
Lots of people commented on how much they’d enjoyed the show, with plenty of visitors to the Deimos stand saying they would be back next year. All in all, a very chilled out weekend and a very successful first ever Grill-n-Chill!
Thanks to Chrissie Keall and Rachel Johnston for the great pictures.
